I just got this new toy. Most guys who say they got a new toy are talking about power tools and such, but I’m a total kitchen geek.
I made biscuit dough in it the other day and cutting in the butter was extremely quick and easy. I mixed it too long after adding the buttermilk though and made it too uniform. It’ll take some getting used to.
I’m planning to make an apple tart this weekend and will be using it to make the crust. I’ll be trying a salad tonight. I’m impressed with the quality of this unit, especially considering the price.
It was a close call between the corresponding KitchenAid and this Cuisinart. I opted for the Cuisinart because it has a lot more attachments available. There were some complaints on Amazon about noise levels, but I have found it to be remarkably quiet.
I have the exact same food processor, except mine is the one with flush buttons — I knew I would get junk around the lever on the one you got. Mine is also a 7 cup. I’ve had it for 3 years, and have never had a single problem. It’s great for the price. It chops and slices like a dream. I guess mine is noisy, but it’s never bothered me much.
Mine came with a dough attachment, and I’ve been trying to knead my bread dough in it, but mixed success. I think the big problem is the smaller bowl. Sometimes the dough just gets stuck under the blade and actually lifts it out. I’m thinking of getting that Bosch universal you have just so I can knead my dough in it.
I use my Cuisinart for making biscuits but I only use it to cut in the butter. After that step, I put the flour/butter mix into a bowl and stir in the buttermilk by hand. Another advantage to this (besides overmixing) is that the work bowl is much easier to clean!
